Our mission is to improve the quality of maternity care through research, education, advocacy and policy. Childbirth Connection recently completed an exciting rebranding process to bring our name, look and website more in line with our contemporary focus on helping women and health professionals make informed maternity care decisions. Go to Why We Changed Our Name 
Childbirth Connection celebrated 90 years of maternity care quality improvement in 2008! To mark this special anniversary, we created a timeline highlighting major milestones over nine decades and ending with the organization's current focus on policy as a core strategy for meeting the needs of childbearing women and their families. Childbirth Connection sponsors awards that were established to pay tribute to two outstanding women leaders of the organization: Carola Warburg Rothschild and Hazel Corbin. The Carola Warburg Rothschild Award recognizes outstanding contributions to the health and well-being of women and their families. The Hazel Corbin/Childbirth Connection Award administered by American College of Nurse-Midwives is designed to support or augment projects that advance knowledge of the safety and effectiveness of midwifery practices and application of this knowledge. Since 1918, Childbirth Connection (known as Maternity Center Association, or MCA, until 2005) has worked as a national not-for-profit organization to improve the quality of maternity care through research, education, advocacy, and demonstration of maternity innovations. During this time, our organization has fostered the establishment of leading organizations in the field, carried out media outreach, and developed a broad range of clinical, educational and advocacy programs; dozens of consumer and professional publications; many conferences and symposia; and numerous surveys and program evaluations.
